Why is there no hot water in my central heating?

Why is there no hot water in my central heating?

A relatively common fault with boilers sees the central heating work with no hot water. If you cannot get your hot water back on by changing your controls, timer and thermostat or by resetting the appliance, then you will have to contact a Gas Safe engineer to get it examined.

Can you put the heating on without water?

If boilers didn’t come with a host of sensors and controls, it might indeed damage your boiler if you turned it on with no water to heat up. Your combi boiler would be the worst affected, as the heat exchanger could suffer, but your cylinder and radiators would probably be fine.

How does a central heating and hot water system work?

I have just purchased a new home, and have a question relating to how the Central Heating and Hot Water systems should work. The boiler is a Baxi HE 24 Solo. The programmer is a Honeywell ST6400C. There is a hot water storage tank in the airing cupboard, which I presume is gravity fed from the loft.

What kind of heater does a central heating system use?

The hot water rises to the top and is available immediately. The most common of these is a combination boiler. These heaters operate on the same principle as above, but can serve many points (taps, washing machine, etc) as well as, in the case of a combination boiler, supplying the hot water for a central heating system.

Do you have to heat the hot water tank every time you use the central heating?

It seems very energy inefficient to have to heat the hot water tank every time I want to use the central heating. Especially given I only need hot water in the morning for showers.

Why does my central heating have no hot water?

The radiators all got hot, but for some reason there is no hot water. It appears that the when I set the boiler to hot water only, the boiler starts-up OK, but after about 1 or 2 mins, the boiler stops and appears to be very hot. I’m wondering if it is stopping as a result of any over-heat safety feature ?

Why does hot water go through the radiators instead of the boiler?

The valve is not sealing off the central heating port correctly. Hot water flows through your radiators when it should flow through the cylinder coil instead. The valve has almost certainly stuck in the heating position. The cylinder thermostat is calling for hot water from the boiler, but the stuck valve means it can only go through the radiators.

Why does my central heating not work with hot water?

The issue is that, in order to get central heating, I seem to be required to have the hot water on at the same time. That is, if I turn the heating on using the programmer, it won’t deliver heat through the radiators unless the hot water is also on, as controlled by the programmer.
