What happens if you keep the choke on?

What happens if you keep the choke on?

Leaving the choke on for too long will cause unnecessary engine wear and waste fuel. The engine needs its fuel to be vaporised in order to burn it. This is done by the carburettor where the fuel is mixed with clean air coming from the air filter, and sent into the pistons to be ignited.

Why does my lawn mower only run on full choke?

The choke mechanism on a lawn mower allows the operator to bring enough fuel into the engine for the combustion process to get started. When the choke gets engaged, a lever opens on the inlet jet of the carburetor. If the mower will only run with this extra lever open, it usually occurs due to a…

What happens when you turn off the choke on an engine?

The choke increases the amount of fuel in the mixture, creating a richer mixture. This allows the engine to function at its best until it has warmed up enough to run on its normal operating fuel mixture. At that point the choke is turned off and the engine runs with a leaner fuel/air mixture.

Why does my dirt bike only run on choke?

You won’t see one of these on a dirt bike because the choke circuit actually just adds more fuel to the mixture with the same amount of airflow. So, a far too lean air/fuel mixture is why your bike only runs with the choke on.

Why does my engine only run with choke on or pressing primer?

Inspect the carburetor mounting for loose hardware. Inspect the carburetor mounting gasket seal for tears or improper fit. Service these areas as necessary. 2) Fuel system contaminationhas resulted in the air and fuel mixture jets inside of the carburetor to become clogged.

The idle circuit could also be in play during this start up. An engine needs a slightly richer or more fuel than air mixture when it starts. As the engine is running and the choke is slowly released to open, less vacuum is created and less fuel is then drawn out of the main jet as the engine is brought up to speed.

What to use to clean choke on lawn mower?

Remove the main jet and the emulsion tube. Dirt or corrosion can clog the tiny opening in the jet or the series of holes cross-drilled in the emulsion tube. These tiny openings can be cleaned with carburetor cleaner and compressed air. Fishing line can be used if needed to help clean debris out of the openings.
