Why does my tub floor squeak?
Tub Flex. Squeaking in an acrylic tub when weight is placed on the floor of the tub can be due to the tub flexing or bending. Injecting a low expansion foam filler to fill in gaps between the floor of the acrylic tub and the subfloor of the bathroom can help eliminate this flexing and reduce the likelihood of damage.

Can a cast iron tub be replaced in a remodel?
Bathtub replacement projects are a great way to save a ton of money on a bathroom remodel. You likely have a cast iron tub. I recommend using a sledge hammer to break it up into pieces. It will be way easier to remove that way. Just be sure to turn off the water and remove the waste pipes before breaking the tub.
How much does an Americast bath tub cost?
You can grab an Americast tub for $325 on up. The first step is to add a 2×4 ledger board to the studs. Screw the 2×4 to studs using 3 inch deck screws and ensure it’s level. Americast tubs have integral overflows which helps eliminate the chance of leaks. We chose the 60″ Princeton tub with a right hand drain orientation.
Can a tub be installed above the floor?
Not easy options. The drawing above shows a typical tub installation. When a tub is designed for an above floor drain connection there is space under the tub to run the drain pipes (above the floor). A much smaller cut out in the slab or floor is needed, just for the down pipe (pictured below). This make installation on a slab much easier.

Close the drain and partially fill the tub with water. Mark the top of the water line with tape. Wait about an hour, then return to the tub to check the fill level. If the fill level has dropped below the tape marker, you have a leak and should check to ensure that the new drain is properly installed and sealed.
