Why are my entry steps on my Bounder not working?

HELP! I just had my entry steps replaced a month ago on my 2014 Bounder & they worked fine until a few days ago when, after a long drive, they worked fine initially but then suddenly won’t extend at all! They make no sound & all efforts to search out a lose wire or a fuse have been in vain.

Where is the override switch on an automatic step?

The magnetic switch is located in the lower portion of the door frame and is triggered when a magnet in the door passes in front of it. If the magnet in the door is not perfectly aligned with the switch in the door frame when the door is closed the step won’t activate. Switch #2 (override switch).

Why are my steps won’t retract?

Thanks for the offer but we’ll be in Indiana that weekend. I will be at the Six State rally in MO. the week before. It did turn out to be the magnetic switch that caused the problem. I took a magnet out of one of my screw drivers and inserted it in the plastic housing and stuffed it full of paper to wedge the magnet toward the sensor.

When do the steps retract on a Class A motorhome?

If the switch is on, the step should stay out. NOTE: If you have Class A or Class C motorhome, the steps will typically retract when the engine is running (regardless of the override switch position). The rest of the switching for the step occurs in the step controller board.

Where is the magnetic switch on an automatic RV step?

On Automatic RV steps, the magnetic switch is the one that makes your steps extend when the door opens and ensures that your RV steps retract when the door closes. There is a magnetic switch found on the sides of the door and the door frame.

What to do if your steps are not working?

Do not forget to check for faulty parts or bad connections to the door switch sensor and the on/off switch to the steps. If you still cannot determine what the problem is then contact the step manufacturer and/or Jayco for help. If that fails to bring results, then you will have to take the RV to a competent RV repair facility. Hope that helps.
