Why does my header tank keep filling up?
Why does my header tank keep filling up?
There are many reasons why the header tank is overflowing: Issues with pump over run. Faulty coil in the hot water tank. Ball valve needs repairing or replacing.
What happens when expansion tank is full?
The loss of air cushion in the expansion / compression tank means that at each heating-on cycle the system pressure can be too high, causing the temperature/pressure relief valve to spill. Air in the hot water heating system can cause loss of heat: air in baseboards radiators keeps hot water out – they don’t get hot.
Should there be water in my expansion tank?
Once you completely open the valve, you can measure and note the pressure. You can also check your expansion tank’s pre-charge pressure by knocking on the side of the tank with your knuckles to determine if it’s full of air or water. Pre-charge pressure that’s too low may be indicated when the tank is full of water.
Why does the hot water go up to the header tank?
This can mean that the pump is attempting to do this when the valves are closed and the only place for the hot water to go is up to the header tank. To avoid this, heating systems should have an Automatic Bypass Valve (ABV) which allows the hot water to circulate even when the valves are closed.
What should I do if my header tank overflows?
When it comes to a header tank overflowing, we highly recommend contacting a heating engineer to carry out the repair. What is the header tank? The header tank, otherwise known as the feed and expansion tank or cistern, is an essential part of an open vented central heating system with a regular boiler.
Why does my central heating expansion tank keep filling up?
I noticed that the water feed to the expansion tank is filling, but the water level is constant, ie it is not overflowing but water is clearly being lost somewhere in the system. I cant get my head around this, but this must be related to the boiler lack of water issue somehow.
Why does my F & E tank overflow when CH on?
The issue appears to be as Devils Advocate describes in his last post. When the boiler kicks in, it demands water from the F&E and then once heated and expansion happens water is pushed up the vent pipe and back into he F&E tank making it overflow. I seem to have an awful lot of air in the system.
What kind of water does a header tank hold?
The header tank is a term given to any container which holds a “head” of water for the cooling system. Be it aluminium or plastic this container stores water for the vehicle cooling system, similar to how some household heating system water tanks work. A header tank is also a version of expansion tank.
How does a cooling system header tank work?
Be it aluminium or plastic this container stores water for the vehicle cooling system, similar to how some household heating system water tanks work. A header tank is also a version of expansion tank.
What’s the best way to fix a header tank?
Securing to a bulkhead or cross member is the usual place to fix a header tank. With regards to plumbing, this can be confusing but it is pretty simple as shown below:
Why is my fill and expansion tank dripping?
My Fill and Expansion tank in my loft is dripping when the CH is switched on. It is fine when just the HW is on. The water in the FE tank is also hot so it is like the boiler is pushing hot water into when the CH is on. Over the summer I used the boiler for HW with no issues.
