How do I unlock Baldwin locks?
To UNLOCK the door from the outside WITH the bolt thrown: Put the key into the cylinder, with the cuts on the keys facing up, and turn the key one and a quarter turns towards the lock side of the door. One full turn unlocks the bolt and the last quarter turn retracts the latch and opens the door.

Unfortunately, Gainsborough moved their manufacturing offshore some time ago, which has resulted in a very sharp downturn of the quality of their cheaper stuff. When they were making the locks themselves in Blackburn, they were great, but these days, you’d be hard pressed to find any entrance set that was made here to appropriate standards.

What’s wrong with my Trilock lock?
It would have to be a Trilock furniture. It’s quite different from your standard mortice or lever set lock. Not familiar with the brand, but a common problem with locks that are generously greased during manufacture, is that in 10 years time the grease tends to dry out and congeal, leaving the lock hard to operate.
