Can you put Ditra under vinyl flooring?

The Schluter®-DITRA-HEAT system is suitable for applications with engineered wood, vinyl, wood plastic composite (WPC), luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), luxury vinyl planks (LVP), stone plastic composite (SPC) tiles and planks, and laminate flooring. Solid hardwood flooring is not recommended in floor warming applications.

What can Ditra be installed over?

DITRA is approved for use with ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tile. It can be installed over a variety of substrates including plywood, OSB, existing vinyl, structural planks, and concrete. For this project, the DITRA is being installed over radiant-heating element embedded in self-leveling mortar.

Can you put Ditra on subfloor?

Which thinset for Ditra?

The type of thin-set mortar used to install DITRA depends on the substrate material. For example, to set DITRA over plywood or OSB, a modified thin-set mortar meeting the requirements of ANSI A118.11 is used. To set DITRA over concrete or gypsum, Schluter-Systems recommends an unmodified thin-set mortar meeting the requirements of ANSI A118.1.

Can You tile over existing Ditra?

Tile can be installed over DITRA and DITRA-XL immediately; no need to wait for the mortar to cure. Fill the cut-back cavities with Schluter SET, Schluter ALL-SET, Schluter FAST-SET, or unmodified thin-set mortar and comb additional mortar over the matting using a trowel that is appropriate for the size of the tile.

How thick is Ditra mat?

Ditra is 1/8″ thick and comes in 39″ wide rolls of various lengths. It’s installed over a layer of thinset mortar and has a felt backing that creates a mechanical bond with the mortar. Once the Ditra is mortared down, you fill its waffle-like top surface with more mortar, then set the tile on top.
