Can you run sky into another room from one decoder?

The Sky video and audio get wirelessly transmitted and it also sends the Sky remote signals back to the Sky box so you can control Sky from the second room. Ours works pefectly between a lounge upstairs and second TV in the kitchen downstairs. I also have a second receiver in a bedroom one storey lower down again and that works perfectly too.

Can you distribute Sky Q over Cat5 cabling?

What kind of cable do I need for Sky TV in another room?

Insert an Ethernet cable into the box labelled transmitter. This is the cable that will go from room A into room B. You should use an Ethernet cable called cat 5e, or cat 6. The Ethernet cable should not be longer than 40m.

Where does the decoder go in a splitter?

Sky decoder goes into the input on the splitter – then two HDMI cables out, one to each TV. This won’t give you IR as well though. There are other options utilising ethernet to give you IR but the cost starts going up. 20M lengths will usually works with cheap cables but there is no promise you won’t get problems.

What kind of decoder does Sky TV use?

LNB -> DVB-S tuner (DVB-S2 for HD) -> CSA chip > MPEG 2 decoder (MPEG 4 for HD). The CSA chip takes the garbled video stream and formats it ready for the MPEG x decoder.

Are there any Sky decoders that work in New Zealand?

One note: New Zealand’s Sky Decoders are notoriously fussy with IR emitters very easily overloading their sensors. The only one that we have found to work with 100% of sky boxes is the Blue-Eye system, which is made here in new Zealand specifically for our sky decoders.
