Do well pumps run all the time?
Do well pumps run all the time?
The well pump is set to operate when the pressurized water tank depletes, which in most cases means the well pump will only run for short bursts of time. However, if a faucet or toilet is running at all times, it will also mean that your well pump will run constantly as well.
Why does my water pump run all the time?

What to do if your well water pump keeps running?
If no water is being delivered and the pump is running and it’s an above ground pump, turn off power and inspect the pump cavity for the presence of water by removing the priming plug. If the pump is a submersible unit in the well, loss of prime is not normally an issue.
What does it mean when your well pump loses Prime?
Loss of prime at the well pump is typically only an issue with a jet pump system. “Priming the pump” means that the intake pipe on a jet system must always be filled with water (primed) in order to generate enough suction to pull water out of the well and into the household water line. If your well pump loses prime, then it will run constantly.
What kind of pump does a water well have?
Typical domestic water wells have a submersible pump that is immersed under the water and pumps water directly to the house. Some wells have pumps called “jet pumps” which are located on the top of the well.
What causes a water pump to run continuously?
If the system still has pressure and won’t turn off, the pump may not be primed correctly, or the pressure control switch may be improperly set. If a water pump runs continuously and the system still has some pressure, it is possible that water is running somewhere in the plumbing system.
What to do if your well pump cannot pump water?
