Do you have to paint over Corroseal?
Yes, but in most applications it is not necessary. An oil based primer is recommended if one is used.
How do you prepare Corroseal?
Follow these four easy steps and breathe new life into your work.
- STEP 1: Prepare the Surface. STEP 1: To start, remove large pieces of rust scale so Corroseal has a surface of fine rust to convert.
- STEP 2: Clean the Surface. STEP 2: Scrub clean removing oil and dirt.
- STEP 3: Apply Corroseal.
- STEP 4: Paint & Enjoy.
Can you put Rust Converter over paint?
Rust converters produce a chemical reaction that reacts with the rust to produce a black inert substance that can then be over painted. The black coating will help prevent air oxidising the surface of the metal further preventing new corrosion.
What does Corroseal turn rust into?
magnetite
Through an innovative chemical conversion process, Corroseal Rust Converter converts rust (iron oxide) into a stable substance, magnetite. It also primes the surface with a high quality latex metal primer at the same time. Corroseal truly provides one step corrosion control.
How long will Corroseal last?
Corroseal typically has a 12 month shelf life when stored as instructed in the technical data sheet, although in some cases it may last longer or shorter than this period.
How long does Corroseal need to dry?
30 minutes
At 77° F (25° C) CORROSEAL® should be dry to touch in 30 minutes. Do not pour unused CORROSEAL® from roller pan or air pot back into original container to avoid contamination. Clean up with soapy water and rinse well.
How long does Corroseal take to cure?
24 hour
24 hour cure is required to complete the chemical conversion process within the rust. The surface shall be free from any contamination prior to applying subsequent top coat.
What is the best Rust Converter?
Corroseal is widely regarded as the best rust converter paint and metal primer available today. Corroseal is easy to apply with a one-step process of using a paintbrush or a roller. Though it doesn’t come in a spray bottle, if you have your own, it is thin enough to use as a spray.
Can you use Corroseal on bare metal?
Corroseal needs the rust to bond to. If you’re at bare metal an epoxy primer would be best. Make sure you use a solvent to clean the surface to remove any dirt or oils that may have come from your hands. I’ve had great success with Corroseal on light to heavy rust.
