How hard is the Kokoda Challenge?
For those of you who have never competed in a Kokoda Challenge, the course is incredibly taxing on your body and muscles. The stress you put on your ankles, knees and hip joints is enormous. By doing a strength program, you give your body the best chance of getting through the Challenge (and your training) injury-free.
How long does the Kokoda Challenge take?
39 hours of over 4,000 metres of elevation, walking all weekend through the day and night in whatever weather conditions are thrown your way and pushing yourself beyond what you thought you were capable of.
What do you wear to the Kokoda Challenge?
All of these items are ESSENTIAL when you embark on the Kokoda Challenges, but we also recommend these things for any training or other hiking adventures;
- A light day pack.
- Toilet paper.
- Sunglasses and a hat.
- Head torch.
- First aid kit.
- Gloves, beanies and jumper.
- Water.

What does the Kokoda Challenge raise money for?
Raise Funds to Change Lives Through this event, you will be raising funds for kids who participate in Youth Programs run by the Kokoda Youth Foundation. We are a local charity providing experiential programs that engage and inspire Aussie kids to reach their full potential.
Why is Kokoda significant?
Kokoda not only was the most important battle won and fought by Australians but it also shaped Australia’s post-war training practises and military. This victory ‘marked the first major turning of the Japanese ground forced during the Pacific war (Taylor et al p. 176-7,181,182).
