Can you use drywall screws for underlayment?
Whatever you do, don’t use drywall screws for the subfloor. While these screws work well for the needs of drywall panels, they are simply not strong enough for the rigors of subfloor use. Under the stress of regular wear and tear, drywall screw heads usually snap off if they are employed in the subfloor.
Can you lay tile on SurePly?
SurePly® Premium Plywood Underlayment for Use Under Ceramic, Porcelain & Stone Tiles. Thin-set mortars can be troweled directly on top of the SurePly® plywood underlayment, just as you would a cement board because we use an exterior glue bond during the manufacturing process.
Can you screw down SurePly?
You can fasten SurePly® plywood underlayment by selecting one of the following options: Galvanized coated chisel-point staples with a 1/4″ maximum crown or flathead wood screws treated with a moisture-resistant coating (such as galvanized or zinc). Do not use drywall screws.
Can you use screws on SurePly?
Question: Can screws be used when fastening SurePly® plywood underlayment or IronPly® plywood underlayment to the subfloor? Answer: Yes, you can use galvanized flathead wood screws. Make sure screw selected has a minimum 3/16″ head. The screw you choose should not penetrate through the bottom of the sub-floor.
