Is it safe to bypass a furnace pressure switch?
Is it safe to bypass a furnace pressure switch?
As I understand it, bypassing the pressure switch shouldn’t be that dangerous, once the cycle completes it wont start again since it will detect pressure switch stuck on close, meaning it will just flash 2 leds and not turn on again.
Can a faulty air pressure switch stop a boiler from starting?
If all is ok, the ignition continues and the fan energises. An Air Pressure Switch can be faulty by being ‘stuck’ open or closed, which would not necessarily stop the boiler from starting. ANY problem with air flow and exhausting fumes within the boiler can cause the boiler to not start correctly.
Is there a problem with the air pressure switch?
The boiler air pressure switch recognises the pressure difference, and closes down the boiler. In this case the fault is with the boiler fan, an is not an air pressure switch issue.
Can you bypass a pressure switch on a furnace?
First, turn the power off to the furnace. If you have an ohmmeter, you can measure the resistance across the switch. If the temperature is below the setpoint, the resistance across the switch should be zero. If you do not have an electrical meter, you can temporarily bypass the switch and see if the furnace works.
What should be included in a boiler safety system?
Other safety components include gas valve position switches for sensing that the fuel valve is at low fire prior to light-off. Your system could also include furnace pressure switches, high temperature limits, high-steam pressure limits, and/or low-water level cut-offs.
Can a faulty air pressure switch cause a boiler to stop running?
These are a few symptoms of a faulty air pressure switch in a boiler. However, similar symptoms can occur when other parts are faulty, so it’s important to run a diagnostic. Otherwise, you’ll be replacing expensive boiler parts, only to find the same problem still occurs.

How much does it cost to replace air pressure sensor in boiler?
There’s no “set price” when it comes to the cost of replacing a boiler’s air pressure switch. The cost of replacement mentioned below is an estimate. Prices will differ for labour throughout the UK, and the specific boiler you have will determine the exact price of parts. Expect the air pressure sensor itself to cost £50.
