Canlis doesn’t exactly have a dress code, but they do say this: “We are a dressy, fine dining restaurant and we ask that gentlemen wear a suit or sport coat if possible (pro tip: many of our window tables require one).

You can choose between the four-course tasting menu for $105 a head, or a nine-course tasting (mandatory for the entire table) for $150 a head. The quality of food is about as high as it gets, there are some real standout dishes, and overall, a meal here is certainly memorable.

I can go to just about any restaurant in the city in jeans EXCEPT Canlis. It’s “dressy”, that’s part of the atmosphere and ambience, since 1950. They have a very clear dress code, and to my knowledge require, at the minimum, a coat for men. My husband always wears a coat + tie when dining there.
