Is there such a thing as a Dometic heating element?
Is there such a thing as a Dometic heating element?
The picture for the item is of a Dometic element but it is not what was delivered. This is not a Dometic heating element. This is an M.C. Enterprises element. Basically a cheap knock off of an actual Dometic element. If I would have known it was this i would not have ordered it.
Is there a factory replacement for a Dometic?
These are supposed to be direct factory replacements for original (OEM or similar) but I have changed mine out 4x now on a 2013 model year unit in a full time rv park situation. I finally cut one apart to diagnose the failure after checking voltage, current and resistance within the unit and as supplied to power post.
How does resistance wire work in a Dometic?
Resistance wire is fairly fine and coiled uniformly; bedded in a ceramic-like mud that is uniform and without voids. BUT the distance between filaments (essentially a closely formed “u turn” down and back) is very small and coils (appear) to be shorting between each other as evidenced by charring interstitially.
How many coils are in a Dometic line?
Two coils are spec’d for the Dometic line: roughly a 40 ohm and 80 ohm element. I have not tried the 80 ohm element yet but if you are having the same problem I am – it bears further experimentation as simply replacing coil after coil will not solve the problem: even though delivery, price, and availability are as always excellent.
How many AC heaters are in a Dometic heater?
The first photo shows typical Dometic AC Heaters. This is a side-by-side model that has two AC heaters that are wired in series. There are 3 situations that can occur. 1) One heater fails open, the AC heaters will not work at all. 2) One heater develops a short and only one heater is functioning.

How to troubleshoot the back of a Dometic refrigerator?
Okay, now let’s move on to trouble shooting techniques. Check all the circuit breakers and fuses. Check the outlet on the back of the refrigerator. Use a multi meter to check for power voltage. If the voltage checks out okay and all lights work, then check the electric heating element. Beware this has dangerous voltage…. Check the flame.
What happens when you remove the Peculator pump from a Dometic heater?
The result is that all of the ammonia in the boiler will be expended without driving the peculator pump ( Click here to see how peculator pump works ), this leads to an overheat situation. Test between the heater leads after removing them from the Dometic controller, as seen in this drawing.
