What do you do when your boiler says pump overrun?

Your boiler has “pump overrun” so the pump is connected directly to the boiler. The pump should run for a few minutes after the call for heat has ended. If the pump runs continuously when the boiler is off the overrun control is faulty. You will need a Gas Safe qualified engineer to repair the boiler.

Why does the boiler run when there is no call for heat?

The boiler will continue to run due to demand from the cylinder stat but with sporadic flame as system temp drops. At this stage the pump will continue to run from the switched live to the boiler not the pump overrun. The pump overrun only kicks in when there’s no call for heat/hw but the temp is still high.

Why does the water pump run after the boiler goes off?

The pump is wired to the boiler (possibly via the wiring centre) so the pump overrun will work. It sound as if the overrun thermostat is faulty, so the pump runs continuously after the boiler has gone off, instead of running for a few minutes.

Why is my fan not working on my new boiler?

The fan’s speed can be adjusted by a Gas Safe engineer. But, it’s only likely to be a problem on a new boiler, or one that’s been fitted in a new location. If neither of those scenarios sound like yours, the only other possibility is that there’s a problem with the fan’s operation, due to wear and tear.

Why is the pilot light on my boiler not working?

Most people think that strong winds can blow out the pilot light on a boiler, but that’s not usually the case. The air pressure switch wants to recognise air pressure being pushed out of the boiler by the fan, not backwards, into the boiler. When it recognises this issue, it effectively tells the PCB that the fan isn’t working.

Why does my water pump run with no CH or hw?

But now with the milder weather, this theory cannot be correct – the pump still runs at midday, with no HW or CH demand and the boiler dial switched OFF. I have seen hints elsewhere (did I mention that DIYnot is a brilliant website!?), that one cause might be a stuck/faulty micro-switch on the valve actuator.
