What is a Kool deck?

What is a Kool deck?

Keystone Kool Deck was invented by Tucson company, Mortex, in 1962 for use as a surface coating over concrete swimming pool decks, walkways, and patios. Applied to freshly poured concrete, Kool Deck creates a colored, textured concrete surface that the manufacturer says is as strong as the base concrete.

What is the cement around a pool called?

The hardscape area around your swimming pool is called a surround, deck, or decking, even though it isn’t always made of wood or composite, like traditional outdoor decks with which we most often associate the words. Traditionally, most in-ground swimming pool decks are made of concrete.

How long do you wait before Brooming concrete?

When it comes to brooming, timing is critical—brush too early and the surface will be weak, brush too late and there won’t be enough texture. It must be done while the slab is still soft, but after the bleed water has dissipated. Depending on the weather, this can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours.

Can Kool deck be applied to existing concrete?

Kool Deck can be applied to BOTH new and existing concrete! It’s relatively easy to get a great bond with Kool Deck to the concrete when done properly. Mortex provides significant resources for helping contractors on how to properly prepare a surface for using PTA Bonding Agent.

Is it normal for newly poured concrete to crack?

It is NOT normal for concrete to crack if the job was done correctly. If the base was prepared and power compacted a driveway should have very little cracking. A driveway that cracks the following day was done by amateurs and will have a very SHORT life.

When to stop pouring concrete after it hardens?

DON’T subject new concrete to excessive weight. Although concrete will harden soon after pouring, it’s still susceptible to damage from weight during the first four weeks.

Why is it important to take care of new concrete after it is poured?

Controlling the moisture content and the temperature of the new concrete for the first several days through curing take top priority. By giving concrete mix extra attention during this period rather than walking away as soon as it’s poured, you can increase the structural integrity of the concrete and make it more resistant to future cracking.

Can You pour concrete and use it in a couple days?

If you expect to pour concrete and use it in a couple days, you can’t. When the temperatures drop, new concrete should be covered with concrete insulating blankets (or, in a pinch, old household blankets!).

Can a concrete deck be used under a pool?

The concrete deck is waterproof underneath. That means you can use it around a pool or anywhere in the yard with no risk of water accumulating and causing damage. RT Construction follows an established process when we receive a request to build a concrete deck.

What should I do after my concrete deck is poured?

Give your concrete project an adequate amount of time to cure or it can become brittle and crack prematurely. Sealants, much like those used to protect wooden decks, are applied to protect the finished and cured concrete surface.

What happens to the concrete after it is poured?

In order for your new driveway, patio, flooring, or countertops to last a long time, the first days after your concrete pour are critical. After it’s finished, your concrete can become weakened or cracked prematurely if it is not properly cured and sealed.

Why are concrete decks more popular than wood decks?

Concrete Decks Reinforced concrete decks have become increasingly popular with homeowners. That’s because they require very little maintenance, compared to wood decks. In fact, the concrete blocks that are used to construct the decks are virtually maintenance-free, only needing an occasional washing down with a regular garden hose.
