What is an Safo?

What is an Safo?

Fabricated from silicone, the silicone ankle foot orthosis (SAFO) is an alternative to conventional orthoses for dorsiflexor weakness. Since the SAFO is worn directly on the foot, it can be worn without firm shoes. You can even go barefoot.

What is a Safo brace?

In contrast to a traditional rigid AFO, a SAFO supports the foot from the front of the leg down to the top of the foot, instead of from below the foot. This prevents the foot from dropping and helps patients lift the foot, while the leg swings during walking.

What is a ankle/foot orthosis AFO?

AFO stands for ankle foot orthosis. This kind of brace is usually made of plastic. Orthoses are named for the parts of the body they control. An orthosis provides correction, support, or protection to a part of the body.

Can you wear AFO in water?

The DRYPro offers the perfect solution: pull the cover over the AFOs, pump the handheld bulb, and watch as the vacuum seal creates a 100% waterproof barrier between the water and the AFO.

Are AFOs waterproof?

The Aqualine AFO/KAFO solution is durable, waterproof, and corrosion-resistant to chlorine, salt, and soapy water. The lighweight knee and ankle joints are suitable for both thermoplastic and prepreg orthoses, and the components are easy to clean, easy to dry, and fully serviceable.

How do you get ankle/foot orthosis?

Application

  1. Apply a long cotton sock.
  2. Loosen Velcro straps on front of AFO.
  3. Slide foot into AFO.
  4. Ensure that foot is properly positioned in the back of the brace and on the bottom of the footplate.
  5. Fasten the Velcro straps and pull snug to make sure foot does not slide in AFO.
  6. Put on shoe.

Can you wear AFO without socks?

It’s best to get flat shoes with the entire heel at the same height. 4. Wear Cotton Socks. Socks will help your AFO feel more comfortable and will prevent redness and pressure points on your skin.

Can you wear heels with an AFO?

The footwear should not be completely flat. Most AFOs are designed to be worn with footwear with a slight heel to ensure correct alignment. Generally the lower they open the better as this will make it easier to get on. Fastening such as laces or Velcro are also preferred.
