What is Comm Nav?
What is Comm Nav?
A NAV/COMM combines a Navigation Receiver and Communication Transceiver in one unit. A NAV/COMM radio is generally less expensive to buy and install than dedicated NAV and COMM radios. A NAV/COMM usually requires less panel space, and may offer some additional operating convenience.
What is the job of avionics technician?
Avionics technicians are specialists who repair and maintain a plane’s electronic instruments, such as radio communication devices and equipment, radar systems, and navigation aids. As the use of digital technology increases, more time is spent maintaining computer systems.
What requirements must your GPS meet before you can use it for IFR?
To use GPS for IFR approaches, you must use GPS avionics that are properly approved and installed, and all approach procedures to be flown must be retrievable from the airborne navigation database. You must also be sure to check GPS NOTAMs for possible satellite outages.
What AFSC is COMM?
2A8X1 – MOBILITY AIR FORCES INTEGRATED COMMUNICATION/NAVIGATION/MISSION SYSTEMS AFSC.
How much does an avionics technician get paid?
The average salary for an avionics technician in the United States is around $53,762 per year.
How many satellites do you need for GPS aviation?
At least 4 satellites are required to provide a three-dimensional position (latitude, longitude, and altitude) and time solution. 24 Satellites in the constellation (1 for each time zone with about 6 back-ups) orbit the earth at 11,000 NM.
Can you fly IFR with just GPS?
GPS approaches can only be flown in U.S. airspace; elsewhere the use of GPS must be approved by the FAA Administrator. Similarly, GPS instrument approach operations outside the U.S. must be approved by that country.
Why is radio/navigation important in aviation?
Radio navigation aids supply the pilot with intelligence that maintains or enhances the safety of flight. As with communication radios, navigational aids are avionics devices, the repair of which must be carried out by trained technicians at certified repair stations.
