In December 2002, the pier partially collapsed during a storm, when a walkway connecting the concert hall and pavilion fell into the sea. The following month, the concert hall in the middle of the pier fell over, leaving the entire structure close to total collapse.

What is Madeira Drive and where is it?
Madeira Drive is Brighton’s largest hard surface outdoor events space. It is the seafront road which runs east from Brighton Pier for about 2 miles to Black Rock, just next to Brighton Marina. On weekdays it is also a major car parking area with 363 spaces.
