The UniFi Dream Machine (UDM) and UniFi Security Gateway (USG) models offer administrators many useful features to manage their UniFi network, including the ability to create and manage firewall rules that help ensure the security of the network.

The USG Ubiquiti UniFi Security Gateway, is an enterprise Gateway router with Gigabit Ethernet that combines advanced security features with high performance routing technology in a compact and cost-effective unit. USG is wall-mountable with a dual-core, 500 MHz processor for standard hardware-accelerated performance.

The UniFi Security Gateway extends the UniFi Enterprise System to provide cost-effective, reliable routing and advanced security for your network.
Should I get USG or UDM?
If you have Internet service with more than a couple hundred megabits of bandwidth, using an USG requires choosing which features you can live without. If you want higher speeds and you want to use some of those non-offloaded features, you need a USG-Pro, or a UDM.
What is the difference between UDM and UDM pro?
Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro (UDM-PRO) Like the UDM, the Ubiquiti UniFi® Dream Machine Pro (UDM-PRO) is also powered by a fast 1.7 GHz quad‑core processor. However, the UDM-PRO is built more as an enterprise-class solution, and includes: Advanced Security Gateway with Built-in Switch.
Can I use USG without controller?
Yes, the Ubiquiti USG will function without a Unifi Cloud Key but it will need to be setup with a Unifi Controller running on hardware other than a Unifi Cloud Key.
Is USG discontinued?

Does UDM replace USG?
Along with the upcoming UXG-Pro and UDM-Pro-SE, it replaces the USG-Pro as the high-end, rackmount option in the UniFi line. The UDM-Pro is a UniFi OS console, meaning that it integrates a UniFi controller, and can run other UniFi applications like UniFi Protect.
Is UDM Pro worth?
We have been able to consistently achieve measured throughputs of 800-900 Mbps (measured using iPerf3) using Wi-Fi 6 equipped Apple devices. We have found that the UDM Pro can provide an excellent security surveillance system, with superb resolution and decent low-light performance from UniFi 4k cameras.
