It would seem that Grohe makes this cartridge in two different types, one for a hot water (or hot water side) and another for cold water. This one was in fact for the hot water which is what I needed. It turns out that in my case the handle of my faucet just pulls or taps off as there are no fasteners of any kind to hold it on.
