Often, the teachers themselves create the assignment, though not always. Teachers give summer assignments for many reasons to weed out students, to cover material, to practice skills that will be used in the course, to preview course content, or because it’s required by the school administration.

When students arrive on campus either for Orientation or for September classes students will have a common experience around which they might begin conversations.

Summer homework gives students a chance to brush up on their knowledge. It would be a shame to have spent so long learning only to forget it over a period of two months. Summer homework also makes it easier to slip back into the school routine when the new term starts.
