Why does my Potterton Suprima boiler stop igniting?
Why does my Potterton Suprima boiler stop igniting?
Hi, I have a Potterton Suprima 50 Boiler and it stopped igniting, it would try to fire up by running its cycle but then Iād get a flashing red light, it just repeated the process when the reset button was pressed. So I got an engineer to come and look at it.
What kind of circuit board does Potterton Suprima boiler have?
It clearly still had the old style circuit board, in fact one of the earliest circuit boards fitted to the Potterton Suprima, with a membrane panel which has to be pressed to re-set the boiler if it locks out.
How old is the Potterton boiler in the UK?

What causes a lockout on a Suprima gas boiler?
This indicated an alternative likely cause for the lockout, a failing ignition lead. We looked to see which type of ignition lead this boiler carried. The early leads were composed of a graphite core formed round glass fibre thread and covered with a red, rubberised insulation. These are the Suprima ignition leads which give lockout problems.
What are the outputs of a Potterton Suprima boiler?
Suprima boilers are fully automatically controlled, wall mounted, fan powered, balanced flue appliances using a cast iron heat exchanger and are available in outputs ranging from 8.8 – 28.7 kW (30,000 – 98,000 Btu/h) The boilers are designed for use on fully pumped open vented or sealed water systems with an indirect hot water cylinder.
Are there any problems with the Potterton Suprima?
They came in many heat output sizes from 30,000 BTUs right up to 120000 BTUs and all in the same size case. The 120s were recalled a few times due to problems and eventually withdrawn, but all in all, they were a good boiler. The Potterton suprima had its faults though and one of them was the PCB or otherwise known as the printed circuit board.
What does flashing red mean on Potterton Suprima boiler?
I can’t remember now.) The Potterton Suprima Replacement PCB Kit manual says that flashing red 3 times/sec indicates an air pressure switch (APS) fault or a flow switch fault. We opened the boiler up to check if a flow switch was fitted (sometimes called a dry fire switch) but there was none on this boiler.
