At that point I was getting the UE33 error. So I looked that up online and read it was due to a firmware update failure. So then I attempted to update via USB, that succeeded no problems. Logging into the router online says it has the right bios version.

If you have a Pioneer VSX-52 all it shows for an Error 1 message is to turn the receiver’s power off, then turn it back on and try updating the software again. Have you verified that the software update is for your particular model as sometimes the device looks for a particular file name when updating and if that is not correct it won’t update.

What’s the problem with my Pioneer Elite vsx-52?
This just happened to my Pioneer Elite VSX-52. Followed audioken tip except heated the whole entire board at about 4″ high with heat gun… Problem resolved. Hope I will get a few more years out of this unit (which I love).

The unit is about 4 years old. The UE22 message is constantly flashing and the sound will turn off and on intermittently. There is a lot of info available if you google pioneer UE22 but I really don”t understand it and therefore don”t know if it can be fixed and if so how? Where is the enter button on a pioneer receiver?
On Pioneer receivers, you unplug the unit, fully powering it down. Plug it back in, but do not power it up yet. On the front panel, find the button marked “Enter”. Depending on unit, this may be a single isolated button or a bar type button along a line of such bars.
