Why is water coming from the top of my water heater?

If you find a pool of water on top of your water heater it’s often an indication that there’s a leak on either the water inlet or outlet pipe. First, check the cold water inlet pipe. When the lever is parallel with the pipe, the valve is open which will allow the cold water to enter the tank.

Why is water coming out of my overflow pipe?
