Why use a jumbo wax ring?
Why use a jumbo wax ring?
Toilets with more than normal spacing will need a taller ring to achieve a proper seal. But if you use a tall ring without the flange on a properly spaced toilet installation, excess wax will be squeezed into the drainage path, causing an undesirable obstruction.
Do I need an extra-thick toilet wax ring?
If it’s at the same level, or no more than 1/4 inch below it, a regular wax ring, which is between 3/4 and 1 inch thick, is all you need. If the flange is recessed deeper than that, you need an extra-thick wax ring, which is about an inch thicker than a regular one.
Where do you put the wax ring on a toilet?
To determine which one is right for you, you’ll need to check the “toilet flange” – a metal or plastic piece that can be found over the pipe in the floor under your toilet. If the flange is level with your floor, a regular-thickness wax ring will be fine. You’ll only use a double-thickness wax ring if the flange is located under the floor.
How to determine the wax ring size for a toilet by Danco?
To determine the correct width for your wax ring, simply turn your toilet bowl on its side, and measure the opening on the bottom of your toilet, called the “elbow neck.” Whatever width this measurement is, use that width wax ring. E.g. if the elbow neck measures 3 inches, use a 3-inch wax ring.
Can a double height ring be used under a toilet?
This is why double height rings are often sold with flanges, the flange keeps the wax out of the drainage path. But the flange itself is a bit smaller than the outlet pipe, so it forms a bit of an obstruction itself. Thus, it’s not something you want to use unless there’s a good chance you’ll need it.
Can you use a wax free seal on a toilet?
A point that can be made in favor of wax free seals is that they are reusable. If you ever need or want to replace your old toilet with a new one, you will have to replace the wax ring as well. You can avoid this with a wax free seal as long as it is still in good condition.
Where does the wax ring go on a toilet bowl?
A toilet bowls sits on top of a closet flange, which in turn is screwed to the bathroom floor. Between the two rests a wax ring that seals the toilet bowl to the flange and prevents leaks. The weight of the bowl squashes the ring, which creates the watertight seal.
